“Oh nice…” said I one day while browsing though the recommended section in the music store. I had of course just stumbled across the latest release from Andrew Bird, an album I vaguely remembered being released and saying to myself “yea… get that” but never did…

….so I dished out 10quid for something that I sort of knew was going to be worth it. Andrew Bird is like that, he has this unbelievable bank of genius from where he transacts beautiful melodies, rhymes and rhythms.. and with the combines efforts of Martin Dosh no less.. how could one go wrong!?!? 10 quid well spent.. every track as entertaining as the last.

I guess, as I sit here struggling to keep my feet warm with the winter freezing over outside, this is one of those “The summer is coming… I can smell the BBQ’s and insect repellant” kind of albums. The tone is light and happy, there are numerous “moments” where the enthralling loops and layering of Bird’s numerous instruments and Dosh’s drum patterns bring your ears to attention.. maybe bring a smile to your face.. and if you are lucky they will warm your feet up!

Ok – so perhaps this isnt 100 million miles away from “Armchair Apocrypha”… but there is nothing wrong with that album – in fact Armchair was fairly brilliant. If anything Bird has taken the cohesive nature of Armchair and given it a little more character – some extra production value and varying song constructions which keep you guessing what’s in store… and always pleasing.

Just have a listen.. give it some time. Andrew Bird can do no wrong in my book!
